Maytag 3000 Washer Locked With Door Open

It may take up to five minutes for the washer to stop spinning and draining before the door will unlock.

Maytag 3000 washer locked with door open. After 15 minutes it will reset and the motor will stop humming and the door will unlock. Inspect the door lock for damage. Located on the bottom of the door switch lock unit is a teardrop shaped tab. The door lock secures the washer door shut during operation.

Once the washer door is closed the washer can begin operating. The top panel will pull straight back up and off. Wait approximately 2 minutes for control to reset. Remove the screws coming in from the back of the top panel. You should then be able to open the washer door. The washer will go into a hold and drain routine for 8 minutes. If not call for service.

For that new maytag washer that you have you will need to unplug the washer and remove the bottom front service panel as shown in the image below. The door may immediately unlock. The door will not immediately unlock while the cycle is running due to a possible high water level in the washer high water temperature tumbling or spinning. Carefully reach up along the inside of that front panel and pull down on the manual release tab that is on the bottom of the door latch assembly. Reconnect power to washer plug in. Reach up along the inside of the front and locate the bottom of the door switch lock unit. Front loaders have a locking mechanism to avoid opening the door during a washing cycle but occasionally this lock will be activated accidentally.

Nothing else will appear to be happening with the machine during this time. If the door lock is damaged or does not latch properly replace it. You will hear the door click when it unlocks.

The door should unlock after this is complete. Run a drain and spin cycle. If the washer will not unlock at the end of a wash cycle unplug the washer or disconnect power. The door should unlock after 60 seconds.

Gently pull the tab down about a 1 4 or until a click is heard. If there is no motor humming pull the washer forward and unplug it. If the door lock is defective the washer door will not latch properly. After plugging the washer in one of the following 3 events will happen.

Remove the lower kick panel. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically.
